For delivery crew
Yacht delivery crew jobs
Delivery crew jobs are the fastest way to log serious offshore miles on real passages, alongside an experienced skipper. On Boat Gigs, deliveries that need extra hands say so, and you apply the same way a captain does: a short message, your experience, and your availability.
What delivery crew actually do
Crew stand watches, handle sails, help with navigation, cooking and maintenance, and keep the boat and each other safe through the passage. On a delivery there are no guests to look after, so it is real sailing: watch-keeping, weather, and getting a boat from one place to another.
Do you need qualifications?
Less than a skipper, but safety comes first. STCW Basic Safety Training and an ENG1 medical are commonly asked for on offshore passages, and any RYA sailing courses or logged miles help. Some skippers take on developing crew specifically to build miles toward a ticket; be honest about your experience and it usually works in your favour.
How delivery crew get paid
It varies. Some positions pay a crew fee, some cover expenses and travel, and some are mile-building berths where the value is the sea time rather than a wage. The posting says which, and you agree the terms with the skipper or owner directly.
How to stand out as newer crew
Fill in your real experience, the miles you have, and any safety courses. A short, honest note about what you are looking for (miles, a specific crossing, a mentor-skipper) helps a captain see where you fit. Reliable, safety-minded crew who show up prepared get asked back.
