For captains and crew

Yacht delivery jobs

A yacht delivery job is a short, well-defined passage: an owner needs a boat moved from one port to another and hires a professional skipper, and often crew, to sail it there safely. On Boat Gigs the owner posts the route, you apply with a short message and your rate, and the two of you agree the price directly. No agency in the middle, and no fee taken out of your earnings.

What a yacht delivery job pays

Pay is set between you and the owner, not by us. Most deliveries are quoted as a day rate or a per-mile rate, with flights, fuel, provisioning and marina fees on the owner's account. As a rough orientation, a 40 ft cruising yacht sits around 500 to 600 euro per sailing day all-in; a transatlantic passage is a different order of magnitude.

The number you quote is the number you are paid. There is no commission and no platform cut, so what you agree with the owner is what lands in your account.

Licences and tickets owners expect

For most offshore deliveries owners look for RYA Yachtmaster Offshore as a minimum, Yachtmaster Ocean for long ocean passages, plus STCW Basic Safety Training and a valid ENG1 medical. Coastal hops sometimes accept Yachtmaster Coastal or an equivalent national ticket.

List your tickets on your profile. Captains who show their qualifications, miles and the boats they have sailed get shortlisted first, because the owner can see at a glance that you are the right person for their boat.

Current deliveries you can apply to

New deliveries are posted continuously and appear in the public feed the moment an owner publishes. Filter by region and boat type, read the route and the requirements, and apply to anything that fits your qualifications and your calendar.

What makes a captain get picked

Owners are choosing who to trust with a boat that is often their most valuable possession. A complete profile (miles logged, boats sailed, regions, languages), a short honest pitch, and a fair, transparent quote beat a one-line application every time. Vague and cheapest rarely wins; specific and trustworthy does.
